1. §. Awards to be given by the Association of Hungarian Geophysicists


(1) LORÁND EÖTVÖS medal (year of foundation: 1956)
(2) HONORARY membership (1954)
(3) LÁSZLÓ EGYED medal (1985)
(4) JÁNOS RENNER medal (1985)
(5) CERTIFICATE FROM THE ASSOCIATION (1965)


2. §. By–laws of LORÁND EÖTVÖS medal


(1) The Association of Hungarian Geophysicists launches a medal for
outstanding and devoted activities as well as performance in the
science of geophysics. The medal bears the name of Loránd Eötvös,
the great Hungarian geophysicist and inventor.
(2) On the face of the Loránd Eötvös medal, Loránd Eötvös’s embossed
portrait is featured, encircled by the inscription: Eötvös Loránd 1848–
1919. On the back of the medal, the inscription is: Magyar Geofizikusok
Egyesülete X. Y.–nak 19.. [The Association of Hungarian Geophysicists
to X. Y. 19.. (the year)].
(3) The Association of Hungarian Geophysicists may issue the medal
every third year. Only one medal may be granted at a time.
(4) The medal may only be awarded to a regular member of the
Association of Hungarian Geophysicists. One person may only get it
once.
(5) When awarding the medal, such lifetime performances are to be
considered, the scientific achievements of which significantly promoted
geophysics on the basis of independent research.
(6) Not less than six months prior to the awarding of medals, the Council
requests a committee to make the proposal. After ranking the
suggestions, this list is submitted to the Council with detailed
reasoning, and the Council decides about awarding the medal.
(7) The medal is handed over at the General Meeting.
(8) The decision of the Council, with detailed justification, shall be
published in the Association’s journal.
(9) If the committee does not find an appropriate lifetime performance, the
medal is not to be issued in that year.
(10) The owner of the Loránd Eötvös medal becomes a HONORARY
MEMBER of the Association.


3. §. By–laws of HONORARY membership


(1) A HONORARY member of the Association of Hungarian Geophysicists
may be the Hungarian or foreign citizen who has shown outstanding
performance in geophysics or in its associated sciences or in
supporting the objectives of the Association.
(2) The Council of the Association of Hungarian Geophysicists elects a
HONORARY member (members) every third year. Not less than six
months prior to awarding, the Council requests a committee to propose
a recommendation (recommendations) for the award. The ranking order
of these award nominees with the detailed justification is submitted to
the Council, which decides on awarding the title HONORARY member.
(3) The document on HONORARY membership is handed over at the
General Meeting.
(4) With the full justification, the resolution of the Council shall be
published in the journal of the Association.
(5) The Council decides on the number of persons becoming HONORARY
members in the given year.
(6) The HONORARY member may participate in the events staged by the
Association of Hungarian Geophysicists without having to pay a
participation fee.




4. §. By–laws of LÁSZLÓ EGYED medal


(1) The Association of Hungarian Geophysicists launches a medal to
recognize outstanding professional performance in the field of
geophysics. The medal bears the name of László Egyed, the excellent
Hungarian geophysicist.
(2) Description of the László Egyed medal: A bronze medal of 85 mm
diameter and 6 mm thickness. The face of the medal features László
Egyed’s embossed portrait. This portrait is encircled by the inscription
“1914. Egyed László. 1970. The back of the medal features the
inscription Magyar Geofizikusok Egyesülete. The certificate on
awarding the medal is to be handed over at the time when the medal is
awarded.
(3) The Association of Hungarian Geophysicists may grant the medal
every second year. Up to two medals may be issued at any one time.
(4) The medal may only be awarded to a regular member of the
Association of Hungarian Geophysicists. One person may only receive
it once.
(5) The medal may be awarded:
– for an outstanding performance in any special area of
geophysics;
– for merits (achievements) in the teaching of geophysics;
– for writing and editing special geophysical papers and
– for a whole lifetime service in the profession.
(6) Not less than four months prior to awarding the medal, the Council
requests a committee to propose nominee(s). After making a ranking
order of these proposals, the list with the detailed justification is
submitted to the Council which decides on the awarding of the medal.
(7) The medal is handed over at the General Meeting.
(8) The decision of the Council with the full justification is to be published
in the Association’s journal.
(9) If the Commission does not find a person suitable for receiving the
medal, it may not be issued in that year.


5. §. By–laws of JÁNOS RENNER medal


(1) The Association of Hungarian Geophysicists launches a medal to
recognize outstanding performance within and on behalf of the
Association. The medal bears the name of János Renner, a renowned
Hungarian geophysicist.
(2) Description of János Renner medal:
A bronze medal of 85 mm diameter and 6 mm thickness. The face of
the medal features János Renner’s embossed portrait. The portrait is
encircled by the inscription”1889. Renner János. 1976.” The back of
the medal features the inscription Magyar Geofizikusok Egyesülete.
The certificate about the award is to be handed over at the time the
medal is awarded.
(3) The Association of Hungarian Geophysicists may award the medal
every year. Up to two medals may be awarded at any one time.
(4) The medal may only be awarded to a regular member of the
Association of Hungarian Geophysicists. One person may only receive
it once.
(5) The medal may be awarded:
– for significant social activities conducted within and on behalf of
the Association for a prolonged period;
– for merits shown in the field of organizing and developing the
Association activities;
– for research activities in scientific history.
(6) Not less than four months prior to awarding the medal, the Council
requests a committee to propose award nominee(s). The proposals with
the detailed justification in a ranking order is submitted to the Council
which decides on awarding the medal.
(7) The medal is handed over at the General Meeting.
(8) The resolution of the Council with the full justification shall be published
in the journal of the Association.
(9) If the committee does not find a person eligible for the medal, it may not
be issued in that year.


6. §. By–laws for the CERTIFICATE OF ASSOCIATION


(1) To recognize social or professional activities within or on behalf of the
Association, the Association of Hungarian Geophysicists launches the
CERTIFICATE OF ASSOCIATION.
(2) The Association of Hungarian Geophysicists awards the CERTIFICATE
every year. Up to five CERTIFICATES may be issued at a time.
(3) In addition to the regular members of the Association, the
CERTIFICATE may be given in a justified case to persons outside the
Association as well.
(4) The Council decides on awarding the CERTIFICATE, on the basis of
proposals from sections, committees and regional chapters.
(5) The CERTIFICATE is handed over at the General Meeting.
(6) With full justification, the resolution of the Council is to be published in
the journal of the Association.
